Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official said the attack made him without words and required to be resolved promptly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
