Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
